Lewis Cellars is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Accounting team. Justin Vineyards & Winery includes not only Justin based in Paso Robles but also Landmark Vineyards in Sonoma and Lewis Cellars in Napa.

As a key member of the Accounting department, the Senior Accountant will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports, including wine / alcohol compliance and tax filings. The ideal candidate for the Senior Accountant is someone who has 2-3 years of corporate accounting, preferably in the wine industry. This role requires a seasoned Senior Accountant, with strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships management, peers and subordinates. Candidate should enjoy working in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, complex environment as well as, be self-motivated, detail oriented and have a commitment to continuous improvement.

Job Description

A Day In The Life at Lewis Cellars:

  • Active role in month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing proceduresm inlcuding performing GL entries, and creating / maintaining recurring journal entries
  • Run monthly journal entry reversal process
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
  • Review and analysis of all general ledger accounts for accuracy
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the accounting manager's attention
  • Preparation of Bank Reconciliations including resolving discrepancies
  • Communicate monthly closing status to relevant parties
  • Reconcile bank statements to GL on a monthly basis
  • Involvement in external audits, including preparing audit requests
  • Prepare and submit monthly reporting for wholesale and direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales, within software as well as some manual reporting
  • Responsible for Licensing -- maintain records and submit new license applications and renewals for current state alcohol licenses (wholesale and DTC)
  • Assists new product development to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements including State Label/ Brand Registration -- new applications and renewals (wholesale and DTC)
  • Collaborate with financial and operational peers to maintain and implement standard cost accounting system and process, properly allocate cost inputs across inventory items
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements in the areas related to inventories and cost of goods sold, and conduct financial reviews with management
  • Assist in filing DTC tax returns and compliance reports
  • Preparation of Sales and Use Tax and other fiscal returns
  • Sets up new\current inventory items in customer systems as needed
  • Maintains matrix of wholesale pricing by market by item
  • Maintains matrix of inventory specifications
  • Complete special projects and requests
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement lean practices

Qualifications

Your Contribution to Lewis Cellars:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or a business-related field
  • CPA and/or public accounting experience preferred
  • 3-4 years of experience in Accounting, Wine industry, highly preferred
  • Experience using QuickBooks, JD Edwards, Ship Compliant and Avalara
  • Experience in winery operations, as well as associated compliance issues, is a plus
  • 2 years' experience in cost accounting
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential data and documentation
  • Advanced proficiency using Excel and other MS Office systems
  • Ability to plan and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Action-oriented in taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm
  • Ability to quickly, strategically, and decisively take action in a fast-changing, unpredictable situations
