The Culinary team is looking to add a new Commis! A Commis is responsible for all culinary dishes that are prepared in their section. This individual must be very knowledgeable about his or her specialty, as well as culinary functions in general. The Commis must be organized and comfortable working in a high-pressure environment. They should also be able to give orders within their section, as well as reliably carry out orders handed down to them by the sous chef and head chef.

Job Description

A Day In The Life at JUSTIN:

  • Oversee the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food in the kitchen & executing the cheese & deli program and production downtown.
  • Assist with daily kitchen prep work and station set-up prior to service and maintaining the highest quality food preparation standards.
  • Duties associated with this role: preparing, cooking, and presenting culinary dishes; maintaining strict health and hygiene standards in the kitchen; communicating with supervisor for support to trouble shoot problems.
  • Ability to organize and manage preparation of mis en place and production related to the kitchen and their station
  • Ability to work efficiently on multiple tasks at a time and complete fundamental cooking tasks, including reading and following cooking directions/ recipes.
  • Prepares TRM cheese plates
  • Supports the Restaurant with prep & execution of Events, Lunch/dinner when needed
  • Assist in production for JUSTIN culinary program (jams, pickles, crackers other food items made in bulk).
  • Manages mis en place and communicates with supervisor to procure necessary products.
  • Support washing dishes/ equipment as needed

Qualifications

Your Contribution to JUSTIN:

  • 2+ Years Fine Dining Culinary Experience
  • Culinary Degree Required
  • Serv-Safe Certified
  • Proficient in Menu design and Cost Control
  • Demonstrated strong ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to establish direction, obtain commitment and execute appropriate logistical processes.
  • Comfortable in Dealing with Guest and Purveyors on a daily Basis
  • Exceptional attention to detail, and be passionate about food and wine
  • Must thrive in a fast paced working environment
  • Have a calm and approachable demeanor
  • Superb time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English
  • Must be able to perform basic calculations such as adding, subtracting and dividing
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid exemption
