Job Description

The Ward Law Group is seeking an accomplished Plaintiff Personal Injury Trial Attorney to join our growing New York litigation team.

This position is designed for an attorney with substantial courtroom experience who is comfortable taking complex personal injury cases from filing through verdict.

You'll work alongside experienced paralegals, litigation support professionals, medical experts, and leadership so you can focus on maximizing case value and obtaining exceptional outcomes for our clients.

This is a 100% onsite position based in our New York City office.

What You'll Do

Lead Litigation from Filing Through Trial

  • Independently manage a plaintiff personal injury litigation caseload.
  • Develop litigation strategy and prepare every case for trial.
  • Evaluate liability, damages, and settlement opportunities.
  • Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, and trial.
  • Maximize settlement value while remaining trial ready.

Courtroom Advocacy

  • Serve as first-chair trial counsel.
  • Conduct jury selection.
  • Deliver opening statements and closing arguments.
  • Examine and cross-examine witnesses.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Argue motions.
  • Attend court conferences, hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and trials.

Case Development

  • Build compelling liability and damages arguments.
  • Work with treating physicians and expert witnesses.
  • Prepare trial exhibits, witness outlines, demonstrative evidence, and trial notebooks.
  • Review medical records and expert reports.

Client Advocacy

  • Maintain strong client relationships.
  • Counsel clients on litigation strategy.
  • Provide exceptional communication throughout litigation.
  • Aggressively advocate for maximum client recovery.

Performance Expectations

Success in this role will be measured by the ability to:

  • Successfully manage an active litigation caseload.
  • Take cases through jury trial when necessary.
  • Maximize settlements while preparing every case as if it will be tried.
  • Meet litigation deadlines without supervision.

  • Maintain strong courtroom performance.
  • Consistently achieve favorable verdicts and settlements.
  • Demonstrate excellent legal writing and oral advocacy.
  • Collaborate effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and litigation support staff.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active New York Bar license in good standing.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent Plaintiff Personal Injury litigation experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of first-chair jury trial experience in Plaintiff Personal Injury matters.
  • Proven experience taking cases through verdict.
  • Experience independently managing a litigation caseload from filing through trial.
  • Extensive deposition experience.
  • Extensive motion practice experience.
  • Experience handling mediations and settlement conferences.
  • Experience with catastrophic injury and high-value cases.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and courtroom advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday in New York City.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Record of favorable jury verdicts.
  • Experience handling seven-figure personal injury claims.
  • Trial advocacy awards or recognition.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior attorneys.
  • Experience with Litify or similar legal case management software.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
