Job Description

The Superintendent has experience as a superintendent on complex construction projects of various types and sizes. A Superintendent provides oversight and direction of all construction activities on a project, including providing direction to and scheduling all subcontracted trades, provides other deliverables and work product for communication to the client, and works closely with the Project Manager to successfully complete construction projects.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Work with Scheduler to prepare construction schedule, and communicate and enforce schedule with subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders
  • Allocate resources as required to ensure compliance with project schedule
  • Work closely with others on the field team, including the Project Manager and Project Engineers, to assure successful completion of all projects.
  • Coordinate all required material and equipment deliveries
  • Coordinate all required inspections
  • Review and interpretation of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Technical evaluation of construction deficiencies.
  • Prepare technical report deliverables
  • Ensure that assignments are executed with technical proficiency, accuracy, and professionalism.
  • Review and prepare construction contract claims.
  • Analyze the overall health of a given construction project to determine risks associated with schedule, cost, quality, and safety.
  • Other project duties as assigned by managers.

Management

  • May provide oversight of project team, such as project engineering staff

Operations

  • Exhibit Vertex core values

  • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy.
  • Travel as required to fulfill position and project requirements. This position is assumed to require full-time travel to project locations.
  • Timely submission of time sheets and expenses on a weekly basis.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, management, or engineering field (i.e.: Construction Management, Engineering, etc.)
  • Alternate: Related experience considered in lieu of formal technical education on a case-by-case basis

Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related industry experience
  • Alternate experience considered on a case-by-case basis

Knowledge & Skills

  • Technical knowledge and skills necessary to perform responsibilities of role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities, and have the ability to perform exceptionally under high stress conditions
  • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages required (spreadsheets, word processing, video conferencing, etc.)
  • Knowledge and functional use of Primavera P6 scheduling software a plus
