Job Description
VERTEX is seeking a Lead Scientist/Engineer to develop strategies and execute multi-faceted assessment and remediation projects in New England. Our diverse client base includes private developers, property owners, attorneys, and municipal, state, and federal agencies. Our Boston and Weymouth offices support some of the most high-profile projects in in the area with some of the region’s top developers. Core responsibilities:
- Conduct and/or oversee multi-faceted projects that may include environmental due diligence, subsurface investigations, indoor air quality assessments, vapor intrusion pathway assessments and mitigation, soil and groundwater remediation.
- Work directly with clients to understand projects and develop appropriate scopes of work.
- Manage projects to meet milestones, budgetary limits, deadlines, regulatory requirements, or other performance indicators.
- Responsible for all aspects of the project life cycle: planning, scope definition, budgeting, coordination, execution, and delivery.
- Select and/or manage project staff members and subcontractors.
- Coordinate work activities for multiple project functions to ensure satisfying delivery.
- Prepare and senior review proposals, technical plans & specifications, regulatory submittals, and other technical assessment reports and ensuring accurate data/summary tables and/or figures.
- Senior review Health and Safety Plans/Job Safety Analyses for sites.
- Actively participate in our Account Management program to engage with clients and procure work.
- Meet utilization and other performance metrics as assigned by supervisor.
- Other tasks may include property condition assessments (PCAs), commercial energy usage assessments, and other project assignments as appropriate.
Qualifications
- BS in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related environmental field.
- 15+ years of professional experience and technical proficiency in environmental consulting services, including conducting and leading client facing due diligence, remediation, environmental compliance and/or industrial hygiene projects.
- Appropriate licensure necessary to act as senior lead and reviewer on project work (LSP, PG, PE, CIH, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead project teams, both technically and operationally.
- Successful track record of managing multi-faceted environmental projects that include planning, assessment, remediation, and monitoring of impaired properties.
- Proven track record of Business Development success.
- Ability/willingness for frequent regional travel with some national travel for client work and events. Valid driver's license required.
- Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Relevant safety certifications pursuant to OSHA regulations (OSHA 10/30, HAZWOPER).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong technical report writing skills and attention to detail.
