Job Description

Ready to come out of the construction site trailer and back into the office to kick-start your career supporting litigation claims?

Project Managers in our Litigation and Damages group efficiently manage multiple litigated maters from inception to final expert report submission. You will lead your project team in providing clients with the cost of repair reports that thoroughly detail the assignment, project background, cost of repair, and parties responsible for alleged defects. Duties include managing multiple report deliverables at a time, estimating construction conditions alleged to be defective (siding, roofing, framing, fenestrations/flashing, concrete, foundations, site work, landscaping, interior finishes, etc.), reviewing construction drawings in comparison to specified scopes of work, reviewing construction project documentation and financials, conducting research to determine reasonable costs to support the estimates (i.e., calls with subcontractors and/or vendors), and conducting research to determine reasonable costs owed to different parties in a lawsuit.

What you will be doing:

  • Formulate and manage multiple report deliverables while adhering to proposed budgets and ensuring overall client satisfaction.
  • Develop cost estimates for repair scopes of work based on engineering reports (typically cladding, framing, roofing, foundation, flatwork, civil, and interior scopes of work) for reconstruction projects with little to no oversight.
  • Review, comprehend, and price repair recommendations provided by Engineers or Architects detailing alleged construction and/or design deficiencies.
  • Review and interpret building code as it applies to repair scope and pricing.
  • Use On-Screen Takeoff to quantify repair scopes of work and Xactimate / RS Means to research unit pricing for the scope of work. Solicit quotations and proposals from subcontractors and vendors and ensure said proposals satisfy the proposed scope of work.
  • Keep detailed notes regarding the basis for the estimate.
  • Analyze construction plans, documents, and construction contracts to understand party responsibilities and allocate cost estimates to parties responsible for the alleged defect.
  • Provide forensic analysis of construction project financials, communications, and other documentation.
  • Prepare technical report narratives detailing cost estimating strategies and breakdown of cost allocation.
  • Perform quality control checks for unit price accuracy, takeoff quantities, prescribed scopes of work, and all formulas within Microsoft Excel.
  • Ensure the project file data is organized.
  • Attend site inspections of projects to document observable conditions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management preferred.
  • 5+ years of work experience in a restoration or construction setting preferably as an estimator, construction manager, or engineer.
  • Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings and understanding construction means and methods - performing cost estimating for varying types of structures.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to job sites as needed (valid driver’s license required).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Strong technical writing skills are essential to the role.
  • Ability to provide oversight and coaching to the project team.
  • Proven track record of Project Management with experience in the delivery of projects on-time and on-budget.
  • Ability to buy out projects, analyze contract agreements, analyze construction project financials, and direct subcontractor proposals.
  • Ability to walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain while carrying construction tools or equipment (up to 30 pounds), including carrying and operating a 24-foot extension ladder unassisted.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office required - scheduling software (P6, MS Project, etc.) a plus.
