Job Description

VERTEX, LLC is seeking a full-time Technical Director to lead all facets of field and laboratory data management and visualization associated with a wide range of environmental projects across the country. The Technical Director’s primary responsibilities will be to provide quality-assured data tables and graphical visualizations to environmental project managers. The ideal candidate will have the desire and vision to improve workflow efficiencies and drive the strategic innovation of data management within the Environmental group.

Core Responsibilities

  • Integrate data from laboratory, field, and historical sources into VERTEX’s EQuIS databases
  • Perform standard quality assurance checks on data loaded to EQuIS databases. Document and communicate database quality issues identified
  • Manage administration of EQuIS users, provide training and troubleshooting
  • Identify potential data issues and present solutions
  • Collect, evaluate, process, and integrate GPS data
  • Generate data tables of analytical data and/or field information
  • Produce concise, accurate, and aesthetically compelling figures and data visualizations
  • Provide customized query/reporting support, and develop reporting dashboards
  • Develop workflows for efficient data collection, presentation, analysis, and visualization
  • Interact and maintain successful relationships with clients, VERTEX employees, laboratories, and subcontractors to support data management and data visualization for environmental projects

Qualifications

  • Certificate or BS/BA degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Professional experience in data management best practices, data governance, and data quality 
  • Advanced skills using ESRI ArcGIS applications and experience in using GIS to solve problems and clearly present analytical data
  • Proficiency in EarthSoft’s EQuIS, Microsoft Excel, Access, and SQL Server
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, as well as visualization tools like EnviroInsite, Surfer, gINT and/or RockWorks is a plus

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data from many sources, including field data and online data  
  • Must be able to formulate and clearly communicate ideas to others, including those who have only a basic knowledge of data management or GIS
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new software packages
  • Ability to successfully execute and prioritize multiple complex tasks simultaneously 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with co-workers and clients
