Job Description

VERTEX’S Columbia, MD office is seeking a Project Manager for its growing Industrial Hygiene practice.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct/direct field investigation activities, including Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint (LBP), Mold/Water Intrusion, PCBs and Regulated Materials/Universal Waste.
  • Collect indoor air quality samples
  • Collect bulk asbestos samples
  • Perform asbestos abatement oversight
  • Perform LBP assessments with an XRF
  • Analyze laboratory and engineering data
  • Write inspection summary reports for senior review
  • Represent VERTEX to the client in a professional manner
  • Schedule and coordinate subcontractor activities for projects
  • Prepare and implement Health and Safety Plans for the site where required
  • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related environmental field preferred
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the execution of indoor air quality assessments, asbestos investigations, lead-based paint inspections, mold assessments
  • Position requires Health & Safety Certification pursuant to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER 40 Hour) – training provided if required
  • OSHA 10 or 30-Hour training is preferred, training provided if necessary

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong technical report writing skills
  • Ability/willingness for frequent regional travel (primarily DC, Maryland and Virginia) for field work (valid driver’s license required)
  • Must be able to perform multiple tasks and handle multiple priorities and can perform exceptionally under fast-paced conditions
  • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain
  • Ability to carry field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity
