VERTEX is looking for an Industrial Hygiene Technician to join the Industrial Hygiene team in our Columbia, MD office. We are a rapidly growing, multi-national consulting firm that is experiencing exponential growth, and we’re looking to augment our team of talented individuals!

The Industrial Hygiene Technician will enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects on a fast-paced schedule, working with senior staff to provide field oversight and technical support on a variety of projects. 

Core Responsibilities

• Perform and/or assist with inspections/assessments, building material sampling, water sampling and/or air monitoring related to healthcare and other Industrial Hygiene consulting services, including: indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, noise surveys, risk assessments, environment of care consulting, mold and water loss assessments/investigations, OSHA monitoring, etc. 
• Oversee and review Asbestos/Mold/Indoor Air Quality claim related documents
• Conduct/direct field investigations activities, including asbestos sampling, mold evaluations, water intrusion, and indoor air quality monitoring/testing
• Asbestos abatement oversight and air monitoring
• Analyze laboratory and engineering data
• Write claim review and summary reports for senior review
• Schedule and coordinate subcontractor activities for projects
• Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans where required
• Frequent travel for field work/site visits

• HS Diploma (BS in Environmental Science, Biology, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related environmental/scientific field preferred)
• Field experience directly related to industrial hygiene and healthcare a plus, including report writing and field investigation
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for frequent field travel

Skills & Abilities

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English
• Ability/willingness to travel for frequent field work
• Ability to complete complex tasks, handle multiple priorities, and perform exceptionally under fast-paced conditions
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability/willingness to participate in medical surveillance including respirator fit testing and vaccinations
• Ability to walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain, and carrying field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity
• Ability/willingness to use Personal Protective Equipment, including the use of respirators
