Job Description

Our Industrial Hygiene and Building Sciences team in our New Jersey office is growing!  The Industrial Hygiene Technician position is a multi-faceted role, working on a wide variety of commercial and industrial hygiene projects to perform traditional industrial hygiene functions, including chemical exposure monitoring, indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments water and mold sampling, lead paint investigations, mold mitigation oversight and management, noise assessments/surveys, and OSHA compliance monitoring. As an IH Tech, you will investigate sites, diagnosing and reporting on the cause/effect of various environmental contaminants.  Your focus is on the proper identification, mitigation, and resolutions of a wide range of hazards that will positively influence the health and safety of our client's work environments.  

This is an excellent opportunity to launch or enhance your Industrial Hygiene career working with an experienced staff in an exciting and growing company environment.  The successful candidate will enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects on an effective and efficient schedule, working with senior staff, and providing field oversight on a variety of projects. The Industrial Hygienist Technician will work under the supervision of a Senior Industrial Hygienist when performing all but routine field tasks. The Senior Industrial Hygiene team will provide additional training and guidance to help expand the Technician's capabilities. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive industrial hygiene and ESH functions under the leadership of an experienced Industrial Hygiene staff. 
  • Perform chemical, noise, and environmental contaminant exposure monitoring and assessments
  • Conduct Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessments and investigate interesting commercial/industrial environments including those symptomatic of "sick building syndrome"
  • Perform and/or assist with inspections/assessments, building material sampling, water sampling, odor investigations, and/or air monitoring related to Industrial Hygiene and Building Sciences
  • Assist in performing asbestos building material surveys 
  • Determine potential causes of a variety of suspicious odors, damp/moisture/vapor-like sources, gather samples and analyze results
  • Study patterns of environmental injury and identify where problems originate from and make recommendations to remediate/resolve
  • Draft reports for review/revision by senior personnel
  • Travel regionally up to 80% of the time; duration of travel may vary depending on project and client needs. Must be able to work evening and weekends when needed

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise verbal and written reports
  • Ability and willingness to use Personal Protective Equipment, including the use of respirators
  • Able to participate in medical surveillance including respirator fit testing, and vaccinations
  • Ability to walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain, and carry field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity
  • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Familiarity with cloud-based computing products for reporting, filing, and other job responsibilities

Qualifications

  • BS in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field
  • 1+ years of professional Industrial Hygiene, environmental and/or construction inspection field experience (experience in Industrial Hygiene or environmental sampling is a plus)
  • Safe driving record
  • The following certifications/licenses are a plus: New York State Asbestos Inspector, New York State Asbestos Project Monitor, Asbestos Project Designer, Asbestos Management Planner, New York State Mold Assessor, Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor
  • Knowledge of USEPA, NESHAP and AHERA regulations as well as New York and New Jersey regulations, and guidance documents is a plus
