Job Description

Senior Forensic Engineers - Structural are involved in a wide variety of tasks, including forensic investigations of residential, commercial, and/or mixed-use buildings, code research and construction document review, failure analysis, the scope of repair preparation, and report writing.  These activities will generally be performed for insurance property claims and construction defect litigation matters.

This is a hybrid role reporting to our North-end Boston office and requires frequent travel to client sites throughout the New England region, often with short notice. 

What you will be doing:

  • Conduct forensic field inspections into the cause and origin of incidents related to residential and commercial property damage claims and/or construction or design defect claims
  • Research failures attributed to the building design or construction to determine the cause and origin of incidents
  • Develop a detailed plan for remediation of loss: scope, schedule, budget
  • Develop expert investigative reports with detailed findings and plans with estimates for remediation for senior management review and client presentation
  • Serve as an expert witness for construction defect litigation matters (deposition, arbitration, or trial)
  • Participate in business development activities and presentations, including regular contact with existing and prospective clients in the region
  • Coach project teams assigned
  • Ensure client satisfaction by meeting project on-time and on-budget expectations
  • Ensure all assignments are executed with technical proficiency, accuracy, and professionalism
  • Loss Control duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering (with emphasis on Structures)
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in Massachusetts required (additional New England states a plus)
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in design and construction-related activities of residential and commercial structures or design and inspection of residential and commercial structures - prior forensics experience required.
  • Prior work experience supporting construction damage investigations or litigation matters
  • Strong knowledge of the residential (IRC), commercial (IBC), and existing (IEBC) I-codes and building envelope requirements
  • Understanding of wood, steel, concrete, and masonry structural framing and foundation components
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with office applications (MS Office: Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written (technical writing) communication skills in English
  • Ability to carry and operate a 24-foot extension ladder unassisted, walk on elevated and slope surfaces and work in confined spaces
  • Ability and willingness to travel to client sites, court proceedings, etc. throughout the New England region, often with short notice.
