The Department of Management and International Business

The Department of Management and International Business (MIB) is one of seven departments within the University of Auckland Business School (UABS). The department is organised in five disciplinary areas: Organisation Studies; Entrepreneurship; Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour; Innovation and Strategy; and International Business. The disciplines are taught across the programmes at UABS, including undergraduate degrees, postgraduate taught and research programmes, executive education, and PhD programmes.

The Department is associated with several research centres, including Juncture: Dialogues on Inclusive Capitalism, the Centre for Research on Modern Slavery, the Aotearoa Centre for Leadership and Governance, the Aotearoa Centre for Enterprising Women, the Dame Mira Szaszy Research Centre, and the Circular Economy in Business Research Beacon.

The University of Auckland also chairs the United Nations Academic Impact Hub for Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8 Hub), Decent Work and Economic Growth, and we actively support that work.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity 

With continued growth across the faculty, we seek to attract ambitious, collegial, and research-active academics. We are currently seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Organisational Studies with a strong trajectory in high-quality research and teaching in the disciplinary area.

We are particularly interested in applicants whose research agenda addresses any of the following areas:

• critical management studies perspectives;
• relational or processual approaches to leadership;
• ethical business or the ethics of organising;
• sustainability and sustainable organisations;
• governance and governing processes.

The successful candidate will be appointed at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level and will contribute to the Department’s strategic growth by developing a sustainable research programme, mentoring future scholars, and shaping curricula that anticipate emerging trends rather than only meeting immediate needs.

In addition to growing your academic profile and reputation, you will also be committed to shaping and delivering an exceptional learning experience for students, contributing to an innovative teaching environment using a variety of methods.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) permanent position (subject to continuation).

Remuneration depends on experience and achievements, and will be aligned with our Academic Standards policy. It will be within the following ranges:

Lecturer (L): NZ$99,788 - NZ$119,204
Senior Lecturer (SL): NZ$126,863 - NZ$158,904

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will be a collegial academic, contributing to the Department of MIB and, more specifically, the Organisational Studies Disciplinary Area across a wide range of scholarly activities and engagement. You will have strong communication skills and be able to clearly articulate your plans and ideas.

You must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to completion if applying at the Lecturer level) along with:

Potential (L) or proven track record (SL) in

• successfully teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a business school
• publishing in top-ranked management and organisational studies journals (e.g., Australian Business Deans Council A* or A-ranked or ABS 4*, 4 or 3-point journals)
• attracting funding from both internal and external reputable funding schemes
• designing and delivering curriculum (part or entire course/programme)
• successfully supervising PhD and Masters students research in organisational studies and related topics
