Join the University of Auckland Ngā Wharenoho | Accommodation team as our Weekend Receptionist. We are the largest student housing operator in New Zealand. This weekend role, based at our city campus in Stuart McCutcheon House, is your chance to shine as the primary point of contact for our student residents, their families, and key stakeholders. You will ensure a professional and customer focused welcome while efficiently managing crucial administrative tasks.

You will provide essential reception and administrative support, including managing high volume enquiries and handling financial reconciliation for fees, arrears, and refunds. You will also support front desk operations and assist with facility management and supplies. This role requires clear and professional communication both verbally and via email, as well as a commitment to a high level of customer service and administrative efficiency.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Front-of-House Support: Being the welcoming face of Accommodation, greeting visitors, and professionally handling in-person and telephone enquiries.
  • Financial Administration: Accurately accepting and processing fee payments, completing banking reconciliations, and liaising with residents regarding payments in arrears.
  • Support Coordination: Managing general administrative upkeep, including coordinating couriers, organising post, monitoring photocopier/supply stock, and supporting event registration.
  • Team Support: Providing effective, collaborative support to the Administration Team Leader and Resident Manager across various administrative and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Health and Safety: Actively monitoring and recording resident and guest safety, and participating in and promoting adherence to on-site health and safety policies and drills.

This is a Part-time (15 hours per week,0.4 FTE) position, covering shifts on Saturday and Sunday afternoon to evening. Your usual shift will be 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, which includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch period.

The salary range for this position is between $55,000 and $60,000 (pro-rated for part-time work), negotiable depending on skills and experience.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter who is genuinely positive and outgoing. You should be an extroverted communicator who excels at being the first point of contact, handling interactions with professionalism, whether in person or via email. You will work well independently, solves problems effectively, and possess the level-headed judgement to know when to escalate an issue quickly.

E rapua ana mātou | We are seeking

  • National Certificate of Educational Achievement Level 2 and/ or a vocational qualification in a related subject is preferred.
  • Reception and front desk experience.
  • Demonstrable administrative or customer service experience in a public-facing role.
  • Experience working in a university environment or as a former student who has lived in halls is highly desirable.
  • A positive and clear verbal communicator with professional email etiquette.
  • Proven ability to work independently, solve problems effectively, and maintain a level head to know when to quickly escalate issues.
  • Good skills using Excel and Microsoft programs.
