Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced social work practitioner to join the School of Education and Social Practice as a Professional Teaching Fellow (Field Education).

In this role, you will support the delivery of high-quality field education by coordinating practicum placements, developing and maintaining strong agency partnerships, and mentoring both students and field educators. You will help students integrate theory with practice and ensure that placements meet Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB) requirements and reflect the values of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.

We are looking for someone with significant social work practice experience, established professional relationships across iwi, statutory and community agencies, and the ability to facilitate placement opportunities for students.

This is a part time (0.6–0.8 FTE, 24–32 hours per week), permanent position.
There is flexibility around the final FTE and how hours are scheduled.

The remuneration range for this role is between $103,717 - $128,065 (pro rata for part time hours), depending on qualifications and experience.

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will be a skilled practitioner with a deep understanding of social work education and the importance of practice-based learning. Your strong interpersonal skills will enable you to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and agency partners, while your sound judgement and professionalism will support positive outcomes in placement coordination and problem-solving.

You will also bring:

• A recognised Master’s qualification in Social Work (or equivalent) and registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Social Workers Registration Board.
• Significant and recent social work practice experience in relevant settings (e.g. child protection, health, community or iwi services).
• Existing networks and trusted relationships with iwi, Te Whatu Ora, Oranga Tamariki, and community organisations.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tīkanga Māori, and equity-focused practice.
• Strong communication, organisational, and mentoring skills.
• Experience in facilitating workshops or events
• Experience supporting or supervising students in practice-based settings is desirable.
