Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We seek an enthusiastic, self-motivated Senior Technician to join our Engineering team. You will support the staff and students across various technical operations essential to research activities. You will demonstrate technical expertise and have health and safety knowledge to guide others. You will contribute critically to safety in a dynamic and busy industrial environment.

This is a full-time, fixed-term for 12 months, 37.5 hours per week role. The salary range for this role is $72,000 - $77,100 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will have a trade certificate, or a degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, along with 2-5 years of relevant experience. You will have experience in fabrication with wood and metals. You will have a strong commitment to safety, including implementing safety practices in your work.

Our suitable candidate will have the following:

Essential

  • Experience in construction, carpentry, general building and mechanical
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • A strong aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in IT skills
  • Ability to work proactively, autonomously, and in a team
  • Strong relationship-building skills and customer service focus

Preferred

  • Experience in concrete, timber or steel structures or materials testing
  • Experience in operating gantry cranes, forklifts, knuckle booms and scissor lifts
  • Skills in maintaining and repairing hydraulic systems
  • Knowledge of essential electronic equipment and troubleshooting
  • Ability to analyse, research, learn, and adopt new methods and techniques for research projects and teaching activities
