Company Description
Student Disability Services requires note-takers to have demonstrable note-taking skills, excellent communication skills (written and oral) and to have a reasonable level of personal academic achievement.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
To provide the student with a disability a comprehensive set of typed notes within 24 hours of the lecture. These notes are intended for the student to use for their own purpose of study. Content must be factual as per what is presented by the Lecturer and does not contain the authors opinion or comments of the material.
Hourly rate is $24.86 per hour and you also accrue 8% holiday pay on a casual employment agreement based on hours submitted for payment.
The Note taker must:
- Be Punctual, reliable, and attend all lectures in person (note taking from recordings are only at the discretion and prior approval from Student Disability staff).
- Be organised and have the ability to summarise information effectively.
- Respect the privacy of the student. Do not disclose who you are note taking for.
- Type notes in a word document, any exceptions to this must be approved by Student Disability Services
- Students are encouraged to leave feedback on your notes and you may need to adjust your note taking to meet those requirements
- Provide notes that are factual and cover the verbal content given by the lecturer, not just re-typing power points or providing a transcript of the lecture.
- Provide notes that are accessible
- Clearly structured and well referenced notes are easier to read and support the students learning better than a verbatim record.
The benefit to you of being a note taker is that it can improve your own note taking and be an additional skill to add to your CV.
Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
To be considered for this role you need to be currently enrolled as a student at the University of Auckland.
You will ideally be in your 2nd year of study or higher, and hold a GPA of 6 or greater.
