We are excited to announce the opening of our state-of-the-art Recreation Centre in mid-2024, a hub for sport, health and wellbeing on our campus. As we embark on this new chapter, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Aquatic Manager to lead our aquatic facility operations and ensure the highest standards of safety, customer experience, and program excellence.

Our aquatic facility will be home to a multi-format pool, spa and sauna.  High-quality facilities are provided for our users to engage in a wide range of aquatic sports such as water polo and swimming, as well as aquatic fitness and recreation programmes.  It includes deep water for springboard diving, underwater training and student club activities.

In this newly created role, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management and strategic development of our aquatic facility as well as working closely with the wider sport and recreation leadership team.  You will build and oversee a team of dedicated aquatic professionals, develop and manage appealing aquatic programs from the ground up, and ensure the facility operates efficiently and safely. The role will also include training new lifeguards and building a casual workforce. This is an opportunity to shape the aquatic experience at our world-class institution while ensuring the safe, efficient, and enjoyable operation of our aquatic facilities, programs, and services.

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week), permanent role. The successful candidate may be required to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to accommodate programming needs.  The anticipated start date for this position is early 2024.

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for pools, customer experience, a commitment to health and safety, and a dedication to developing a team that provides a positive and inclusive environment for all members of the university community.

They will also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant Sport and Recreation or management qualification or experience in a similar role managing aquatic programs and facilities.
  • Previous experience in aquatics management, with a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
  • Experience training and providing professional development to new lifeguards
  • Strong knowledge of aquatic facility operations, safety standards, and risk management practices.  This includes knowledge in managing a pool plant, water quality and facility maintenance experience.  
  • Strong skills in communication, influencing and stakeholder management 
  • Current or previous Lifeguard, Water Safety, or Water treatment certification from a recognized organisation.
