Housed in the state of the art architecturally designed Sir Owen G Glenn Building, our top-ranked, triple-crown accredited University of Auckland Faculty of Business and Economics is seeking to recruit established and early career academics to join its world class faculty. It is the largest Faculty of Business and Economics in New Zealand and has an international reputation for academic excellence. Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
The University of Auckland Business School seeks a Lecturer in Economics (any field) for the Bachelor of Commerce core courses. The Faculty of Business and Economics core is the foundation of our business degree and is a unique feature of our programmes. From 2025 an additional course (Waipapa Taumata Rau) focused primarily on Māori business will be added to our stage one offerings. The core is transforming teaching and learning in our faculty. Teachers from multiple departments collaborate to teach core papers and apply a transdisciplinary lens to real business challenges, using team-based learning and innovative learning technologies. Growing a dedicated teaching team of staff committed to the core and elevating the relevance of their own disciplines is essential. Successful applicants will
- act as a "core champion", connecting core courses to their respective departments and Disciplinary Areas within the Business School.
- Ensure our core courses reflect key and current discipline-specific content based on the latest research findings.
- Advocate for transdisciplinary and relational teaching methods within their respective departments.

Remuneration - $91,000 to $109,000, this will be depending on experience.

The Department of Economics has been a part of the University of Auckland for almost a century and home to many distinguished New Zealand economists, including AWH “Bill” Phillips. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate training in Economics within the Business School, the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Science, allowing students considerable flexibility in taking advantage of our course offerings. Our students have gone on to success in private and public sector institutions, such as ANZ, the World Bank, the US Federal Reserve, the Reserve Banks of New Zealand and Australia, the New Zealand Treasury, Bain & Company, and Macquarie Bank, amongst many others. Our top graduates regularly continue to further study at leading universities such as Chicago, Columbia, Oxford, and Yale. Our staff come from around the world, hold doctorates from internationally renowned universities, and have teaching and research interests across a wide range of areas, including behavioural economics, health and wellbeing, environmental economics, industrial organisation, international trade, macroeconomics, and finance. Qualifications
He kōrero mōu | About you
You are an energetic, can-do person with postgraduate qualifications in Economics. A PhD (or soon to be completed PhD) in Economics is highly desirable. You have experience in teaching economics at the undergraduate level, the potential to attract and supervise masters and doctoral students, and strong research potential commensurate with Lecturer level. You have the capability to successfully teach undergraduate and graduate students in economics and to do research and scholarly writing at a very high level in economics and related disciplines are essential.
It is preferable you have experience in teaching/delivering transdisciplinary material/content, knowledge of, or commitment to, mātauranga and tikanga Māori, experience in teaching large undergraduate courses, experience working in small co-facilitation teams and large and transdisciplinary teaching teams, experience with learning management systems and using other new and emerging teaching technologies, and interest in and experience with flipped classroom and team-based learning deliveries.
