Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are currently looking for a dynamic Gallery & Engagement Assistant to provide a welcoming atmosphere to visitors and support the team through assistance with public programming and visitor-centred services on a permanent part-time (0.4FTE) basis.
Accountabilities
- Be a point of information for visitors with an ability to discuss the programme in a confident and engaging way.
- Conceive and deliver family-friendly activities in liaison with the Public Programmes & Engagement Officer.
- Carry out gallery opening and closing procedures including any requirements for artworks.
- Assist the team through administrative duties where required, including the promotion of events, mailing list and website updates and social media planning.
- Have sole charge of the Gallery on Saturdays.
This is a part-time, 15 hours per week permanent role, ideally worked on Fridays and Saturdays (the weekday is negotiable). The salary range for this role is $46,300 - $47,900 prorated to 15 hours per week, per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate
Ideally, you will have experience of working in an art gallery or musum context, either as an employee or volunteer. You will be passionate about contemporary artistic practice and the role that galleries play in helping to create ways for audiences to engage with art. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and prior experience in a public facing role.
You will also have:
- Experience working with children and young people.
- Prior experience delivering workshops and/or events in an arts environment.
- Problem-solving skills.
- A working knowledge of social media applications and basic administration.
