Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are currently looking for an experienced Gallery Technician to join the gallery team and support them with practical technical and art handling skills on a permanent part-time (0.3 FTE) basis, to enable the smooth development and delivery of the gallery’s exhibition programme. The role is 11.25 hours per week, and we are flexible with how you complete this per week, you could choose to do 3 mornings, or 3 afternoons per week, for example.
Accountabilities
- Provide technical expertise for on-site exhibition installation and de-installations.
- Carry out or arrange practical fabrications for exhibits in a range of media to enable artwork specifications to be realised to budget and deadline.
- Advise on improvements to gallery procedures including the sourcing of equipment and competitive quotes.
- Contribute to the improvement of exhibition processes on-site, including the organisation and auditing of equipment.
- Embed Health and Safety procedures for exhibitions, in line with University of Auckland protocols.
The salary range for this role is $54,700 - $58,500 per annum prorated depending on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate
Ideally, you will have a minimum of 3 years demonstrable experience of practical technical work in a gallery, museum or arts context. You will have demonstrable experience of planning and delivering contemporary art multi-media installations and experience working with artists.
You will also have:
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work at pace.
- Good administrative and IT skills, including Microsoft, Sketch-Up and Photoshop.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a small and committed team.
During the 3 annual exhibitions there is an opportunity to pick up additional hours during each of the exhibition’s changeover periods should you be interested.
