Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity  

Are you passionate about preserving and enabling access to indigenous knowledge? The Archive of Māori and Pacific Sound (AMPS) is an internationally significant archive containing approximately 12,000 unique recordings from Aotearoa and across the Pacific, including waiata, hymns, instrumental music, dance, stories and legends, oral histories and language resources. This fixed term role will see you lead the development and delivery of the AMPS access project and setting the direction of the next exciting phase for the AMPS collection. In this hands-on role, you will lead a small team, conduct a collection rationalisation project and identify collection digitisation priorities, planning and overseeing the outsourcing of digital preservation of all unique recordings within the collection.

Waipapa Taumata Rau is values-led in our relationships, creating genuine opportunities for the communities we serve to engage in ethical and responsible partnerships. You’ll bring your experience of working closely with a wide range of stakeholders, and Mātauranga Māori and Pasifika collections, to develop a cultural permissions process that enables appropriate access to materials cared for by the Cultural Collections team. You’re a people person who recognises the importance of the collection in learning, teaching and research and you will lead outreach activities that highlight the collection, ensuring that relationships are developed and deepened with Māori and Pacific communities.

This is a Full Time role 37.5 hours per week. The salary range for this role is $76,200 - $94,100 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • A degree in a library and information related, archives or equivalent discipline. 
  • Proven leadership and management experience within a complex working environment. 
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in team building, change management and working collaboratively. 
  • Proven people management skills and experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience of innovating in a cultural collections and archives context. 
  • Experience of developing Mātauranga Māori and Pacific collections 
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective and productive partnerships 
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, especially in relation to cultural collections
