Job Description
NeSI - New Zealand eScience Infrastructure - is New Zealand's high-performance computing and data research infrastructure. We grow the computing and analytics capability of researchers, including through partnering with research sector teams and institutions to achieve critical mass. As an unincorporated body, NeSI is an investment by New Zealand universities, Crown Research Institutes, and the Crown, through the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
NeSI provides platforms and expertise which enable the country's researchers to tackle the world's largest problems. Increasingly, data is at the centre of our world – whether it’s the environmental data informing models of water quality and abundance, biological data capturing the genetic variance within a wide range of populations, or data informing forecasting of the effects of climate. Researchers often depend on advanced high-performance computing and data capabilities to achieve their goals, and NeSI is at the forefront of this innovation.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are seeking a Researcher Community Development lead who has accountability in supporting key research groups in an advisory capacity, understanding their unique and individual research requirements in a way that allows NeSI to better connect to their computational needs. This position has a particular focus on NeSI's training activities, using training to support community requirements, as well as supporting the national training community itself.
The Research Communities Advisor role, whilst employed by the University of Auckland, is a national position, driving training services within a team of world class experts in applying computational methods and tools.

- Passion for helping researchers gain the skills they need to do the science they aspire to
- Comfort down in the detail one minute and having lofty strategic conversations on the future of the research workforce next
- Comfort as an ally for those delivering training, ensuring the success of training activities
- Experience in providing research project advice or support
- The ability to influence, build relationships and provide advice to a range of influencers
- An understanding of, or interest in learning, advanced ICT infrastructures and technologies
