The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

As part of our commitment to the development of local capacity in research and teaching, the Faculty of Arts offers an annual Te Tomokanga Postdoctoral Fellowship. Te Tomokanga refers to a gateway or entry point, in this case for a recent Doctoral graduate to develop their research and experience academic life while seeking further academic opportunities. This opportunity is open to Māori and Pacific PhD graduates of all Arts disciplines to join one of our four Schools as relevant to their scholarly area. These four Schools are Social Sciences; Humanities; Cultures, Languages and Linguistics and Te Wānanga o Waipapa (the School of Māori and Pacific Studies).

Reporting to the Head of School and supported by world-class academic colleagues, you will conduct supervised research, contributing to the Faculty of Arts’ diverse and high-quality research programme. You will grow your academic network and build a tūrangawaewae (credible foundation) within your discipline. You will also contribute to teaching, gain exposure to research funding processes and the internal workings of the Faculty to aid in your development into future academic roles.

This position is full-time and fixed-term for 24 months.

He kōrero mōu | About you

Suitable applicants will have completed a doctoral qualification in a relevant Arts discipline in the last two years and will display a high potential for the utilisation and development of mātauranga Māori (Vision Mātauranga) and/or Pacific knowledge.
