Playing a vital role in contributing to the success of the University of Auckland, the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) is a large and diverse faculty with more than 4,000 students studying across six schools, including Schools of Nursing, Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, Population Health, Optometry & Vision Science and the School of Medicine. We are now seeking to appoint a new Director of Faculty Operations to lead the faculty’s administrative, technical and support functions (faculty operations) which are vital to achieving the faculty’s academic teaching and learning aims and continued excellence in research across a range of medical and health disciplines.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Provide Leadership, Mentoring and Direction for professional staff within faculty operations.
- Strategy, Planning & Decision Making including supporting the Dean in development and implementation of operational and strategic plans.
- Operational Leadership and Reporting including leadership of the faculty’s professional operations & processes, compliance and overall responsibility for the operational management of the faculty through effective KPI’s and reporting.
- Financial Management - Responsibility for the financial management and audit of cost centres within faculty operational departments to allow for the greatest use of resource to further the strategic goals of the faculty.
- Relationship Management with a wide variety of stakeholders including Heads of Schools, Deans, Executives, other Directors of Faculty Operations, Service Divisions, central leadership and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Continuous Improvement and Project Management as directed by or in collaboration with the Dean and Head of Financial Business Services, development of continuity plans, risk management and continuous improvement ideas and initiatives.

The successful candidate will exhibit an in-depth knowledge and understanding of strategic operations within large and complex organisations. They will need to demonstrate proven relationship management strengths, with clear evidence of your ability to build successful business partnerships and drive strategic direction and effective service cultures.
This is a senior leadership position working within a collegial and effective executive team and a unique role that requires strong skills in influencing and driving collaboration. High-level communication ability is essential, with verbal, written and interpersonal skills integral to success in this role.
In addition, the successful applicants will possess strong analytical ability coupled with an innovative and creative thinking style and robust business and technology acumen.
