Job Description

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We are currently looking for a Professional Teaching Fellow to join our Auckland ICT Graduate School on a 12 month fixed term contract.

This role will be responsible for ensuring the school meets key objectives and milestones through the effective development and delivering of innovative teaching, course coordination and pastoral care for students.

Accountabilities

  • Support teaching activities such as preparing and delivering lectures and providing academic oversight and pastoral care to the student cohort.
  • Ensure that labs are equipped for course delivery.
  • Make sure that results of experiments, such as data, are safeguarded (backups) and catalogued.
  • Improve, monitor and enforce Health and Safety in the labs.

The Auckland ICT Graduate School sits within the School of Computer Science and was introduced  to meet the ongoing demand for students with a talent in computer and information technology through two new postgraduate programmes, the Master of Information Technology (MInfoTech) and the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology (PGCertIT). The aim is to develop industry-ready graduates with the right mix of technology skills, critical thinking and other business savvy to drive innovation in New Zealand. The faculties of Science, Business, Engineering, and Medical and Health Sciences all contribute to the teaching of ICT and complementary skills.

Our ideal candidate will have a relevant teaching qualification and or related tertiary teaching experience with demonstrable commitment to quality teaching and improving student outcomes and experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and engage with new technology and learning management systems (experience with Canvas preferred)
  • An understanding or willingness to learn about equity concerns, New Zealand’s diverse cultural population and the impact that can have on student recruitment, retention and outcomes
