Job Description

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We are currently looking for an experienced Technical Coordinator to join the gallery team and support them with the coordination and practical technical support on a 6 month 0.2 FTE (1 day per week which could be worked flexibly over 2 days) to enable the smooth planning, development and delivery of the gallery’s exhibition programme.

Accountabilities

  • Contribute towards effective scheduling for on-site exhibition installation and de-installations
  • Advise on improvements to gallery procedures including the sourcing of equipment and competitive quotes
  • Contribute to the improvement of exhibition processes on-site, including the organisation and auditing of equipment.
  • Put in place advanced practical solutions for artist installations, and specifically film and audio visual set ups. 
  • Embed Health and Safety procedures for exhibitions, in line with University of Auckland protocols

Qualifications

About you | He kōrero mōu

Ideally, you will have 4 years demonstrable experience of delivering practical technical work in a gallery, museum or arts context. You will also have experience of coordinating complex art installations and planning and delivering ambitious contemporary art multi-media installations. A good knowledge and awareness of working with audio visual material – film, digital media and related equipment is desirable. You will also have:

  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work at pace.
  • Good administrative and IT skills, including Microsoft, Sketch-Up and Photoshop.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a small and committed team.

During the 3 annual exhibitions there is an opportunity to pick up additional hours during each of the exhibition’s changeover periods should you be interested.
