The Discipline of Nutrition and Dietetics (DOND) is part of the School of Medical Sciences of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. The DOND provides substantial input into the clinical and biomedical programmes. The DOND is committed to excellence in research and teaching and is part of the University of Auckland cross-Faculty Food and Health Programme.

This is a part-time (8 hours per week), fixed-term role for 18 months.  

Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Applications are invited for a Paediatric Study Phlebotomist to support Professor Clare Wall to conduct a  National Science Challenge Programme funded randomised controlled trial in infants within The Discipline of Nutrition and Dietetics. 

You will contribute directly to:

  • The venepuncture and collection of blood samples in 6-12-month-old infants
  • Supporting study parents and infants in reassuring them and delivering an efficient and effective collection of samples
  • Appropriately labelling and processing blood samples (adequate laboratory training will be provided)

He kōrero mōu | About you\

You will be a qualified Phlebotomist or Registered Nurse, ideally with experience of venepuncture in infants, however, we may be able to provide some additional training for candidates with extensive experience in general Phlebotomy.

You will also have:

  • Registered with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and hold an Annual Practising Certificate of Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician (Phlebotomy certificate).
  • A mature approach to working in a sensitive environment
  • Comfortable in a health care setting and conversing with patients and their families
