Job Description

Libraries and Learning Services team have an exciting opportunity for a Learning Adviser with a strong commitment to the success of Māori and Pacific students in a university setting. This is a full time, 37.5 hours per week fixed-term position until December 2021. A job share arrangement of 2 x .5 positions will be considered. 

In this role, you will join a team of advisors who support Māori and Pacific student development at the undergraduate and postgraduate level by developing, implementing and promoting holistic academic programmes for our diverse cohorts across the University. You will have a demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Reo.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Expertise in teaching and learning particularly with Māori and Pacific undergraduate and postgraduate students, and PhD candidates
  • Experience working with personal growth and professional development curriculum
  • A Māori, Pacific, and or Indigenous pedagogical approach to teaching and learning
  • Knowledge and experience teaching academic literacy development
  • The ability to create whanaungatanga and culturally safe learning environments for Māori and Pacific students.

Our preferred candidate will have:

  • A postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in the development and delivery of academic and information literacies in a continuously evolving environment
  • The ability to work effectively in partnership with a variety of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in teamwork and working collaboratively.
  • Proven people organisation skills and experience.
  • Experience of developing and delivering relevant learning development services for a diverse range of students.

An understanding of the New Zealand tertiary education sector, and equity issues affecting students, is advantageous.
