Job Description
The Department of Mathematics at the University of Auckland is the largest and strongest in New Zealand with thriving undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes and a strong PhD programme. Our staff leads ground-breaking research which is recognised internationally spanning pure mathematics, applied mathematics and mathematics education.
The Department of Mathematics invites applications for Professional Teaching Fellow with particular responsibility for the Mathematics Tuākana programme to join our team.
This position is part-time (20 hours per week) position with flexible working hours.
About the role
The successful applicant will particularly be focused on the Tuākana programme, which provides learning support for Māori and Pasifika students. You would join an extremely talented, diverse and collegial team of Professional Teaching Fellows with backgrounds ranging from PhDs in mathematics to stellar teachers from the secondary education sector.
Your duties may also include teaching mainstream courses in the department. You will develop high-quality content and course materials, investigate novel strategies and technologies to enhance student learning and engagement, and support diverse styles of teaching and learning.
Skills and Experience
- A PhD in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or a closely related field is desirable.
- A postgraduate degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or a closely related field is essential.
- You will have excellent teaching skills and be a highly-motivated, team player with leadership potential.
- You will have a strong interest in providing learning support for Māori and Pasifika students. Fluency in an indigenous Pacific language would be desirable.
