The Department of Physics at the University of Auckland is home to New Zealand’s top-ranked physics programme, and our comprehensive research and stimulating teaching programmes are strengthened by a growing technical team. 

The opportunity

We are seeking two Electronics Technicians to join the team in similar roles spanning electronics design and repair, software and firmware, rapid prototyping, the health and safety of all staff and students, refreshing design processes, and maintaining smooth operations in teaching and research laboratories. About the team

Our staff and students explore the fundamental properties of the physical world and create new devices and technologies.  A sampling of current projects supported by our technical team includes building a small space satellite ground station and spacecraft electronics, creating new medical imaging devices, and developing novel laser technologies.  Separately, the technical team contributes to the delivery of undergraduate classes through the creation and deployment of innovative learning tools and laboratory apparatus.   

Technicians work in a team-based environment, and independently with assigned focus areas of responsibility. 

Skills and experience

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • A certificate/diploma in electrical/electronic engineering, physics, software or computer systems engineering, or similar relevant discipline
  • Practical work experience or experience gained while studying
  • Electrical Workers Registration Board Electrical Service Technician Certificate
  • Familiarity with mechanical design principles
  • Skills in analogue & digital circuit design and PCB layout
  • Strong computer literacy
