The Doctoral Experience Manager will play a leading role in ensuring doctoral candidates at the University of Auckland have access to a world-class co-curricular programme and experience.

About us  

The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) is the central service division responsible for managing and enhancing the PhD and other doctoral programmes at the University of Auckland. SGS facilitates services and support for all doctoral candidates, and their supervisors, across the institution.

The Role

The newly created position of Doctoral Experience Manager provides an opportunity to use your relationship-building and collaboration skills as you work effectively across the institution.

Reporting to the Manager, Graduate Studies, in this wide and varied role you will be responsible for developing, facilitating and promoting co-curricular experiences to over 3000 doctoral candidates across the University of Auckland. Leading a small dedicated team, and working with a wide range of internal and external service providers and stakeholders, you will ensure that our doctoral candidates have access to opportunities, information and skills development that will help them successfully complete their doctorate and thrive in their future careers.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Design and facilitation of the University-wide Doctoral Research Candidate Development Programme to support successful candidate completion and the development of work-related and transferable skills of our PhD and doctoral cohorts.
  • Management and delivery of doctoral engagement and communications through a range of digital channels, ensuring that candidates, their supervisors and other stakeholders have the information and opportunities they need to succeed.
  • Management and delivery of a programme of engagement activities and events for doctoral candidates and related stakeholders.
  • Development and maintenance of key relationships with service providers and stakeholders throughout the University, fostering a productive and collaborative approach to doctoral training and support.

Our Ideal Applicant

Our ideal applicant will have:

  • A demonstrated ability to implement strategic initiatives and manage, to completion, complex projects with multiple stakeholders, ideally in a tertiary environment.
  • Proven people management skills and experience.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to create engaging content for a range of audiences and channels.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the doctoral candidate lifecycle and requirements, and an awareness of the current national and international policy and direction in research training and the tertiary education sector.
  • A postgraduate research qualification with significant relevant work experience, or an equivalent level of training and/or experience, in a large complex organisation.
