Job Description

Private Practice Legal Recruiter – Melbourne

Taylor Root is the preeminent legal search and recruitment business in the Australia market. We are seeking to expand our private practice offering across Australia with a hire of a specialist private practice legal recruitment consultant focusing on the law firm associate and senior associate in market in Melbourne.

Our clients are the top tier Australian law firms, international law firms with Australian presences and mid-tier Australian law firms.

The position would suit a lawyer seeking an career change or an experienced legal or professional services recruitment consultant.

The Role:

As a Private Practice Legal Recruiter, you will be responsible for sourcing and recruiting top legal talent for law firms in Melbourne and inter-state. You will work closely with hiring managers and partners to understand their hiring needs, identify and engage with potential candidates, and guide the hiring process from start to finish. You will also need to develop and maintain strong relationships with both clients and candidates to ensure a high level of satisfaction and continued business success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with hiring managers, partners and General Counsel to identify staffing needs and develop recruiting strategies
  • Market map, identify and headhunt law firm associate and in-house legal counsel market in Brisbane and Queensland
  • Source and recruit qualified candidates through a variety of channels, including job boards, social media, referrals, and networking
  • Evaluate candidates' qualifications, experience, and fit for the position and company culture
  • Guide candidates through the interview process, providing feedback and coaching as needed
  • Manage the hiring process, including offer negotiation, background checks, and onboarding
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and candidates to ensure long-term success and referrals
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and market intelligence to provide valuable insights and advice to clients and candidates

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field ideally an LLB
  • Experience within the legal industry ideally as a qualified lawyer
  • Alternatively, experience in legal or professional services recruiting, preferably with a focus on Private Practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Familiarity with legal industry terminology and trends would be advantageous
  • Experience with AST or CRM and other recruiting tools
  • A “go getter” – someone who is prepared to business develop and help develop the client base

Workplace Type: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 from home) Some inter-state travel will be required.
