Job Description

Job Purpose:

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Rank Interactive, you will leverage your extensive experience to optimize and enhance our infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud management systems. You will work collaboratively with other senior engineers and development teams to drive automation, security, and scalability, ensuring our systems are efficient and reliable in a highly regulated environment (UKGC & PCI-DSS compliance).

In this hands-on, senior-level role, you'll be a reference for other teams who will rely on you for: designing, building, and maintaining critical systems and infrastructure, with a focus on enhancing deployment processes, optimizing cloud environments, and ensuring best practices for security and compliance. This role is perfect for an experienced engineer who is passionate about delivering quality infrastructure solutions and driving continuous improvements in a complex technical landscape.

Main Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

The focal-point of this role is to be responsible for and maintain current existing tech stacks of Continuous Integration and Deployments including Jenkins Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Automated Deployments, Security Vulnerabilities Remediation and detection of issues in a highly regulated UKGC and PCI-DSS Compliance setting.

  • Infrastructure & Automation: Design, build, and maintain highly available, secure, and scalable infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation, automating provisioning and configuration management processes.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Develop, manage, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to enable automated deployment processes using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar tools, ensuring fast, reliable, and repeatable builds and deployments.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Manage and optimize Kubernetes clusters (any flavour), containerized applications, and orchestrated environments using Docker, Podman, or similar technologies, ensuring high performance and resilience.
  • Monitoring & Logging: Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack, ensuring robust visibility into system performance and health.
  • Security & Compliance: Enforce security best practices, implement IAM roles, least privilege policies, and work within a DevSecOps or Shift Left framework to ensure systems comply with the highest industry standards, including UKGC and PCI-DSS.
  • Cloud Management: Optimize and manage cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for high availability and performance, focusing on the following:
  1. Security Groups: Configure with risk assessments, managing allow lists in large-scale infrastructures.
  2. Load Balancers: Expertise with Application and Network Load Balancers in AWS, routing traffic efficiently to downstream services.
  3. Database Services: Work with RDS, DynamoDB, and AuroraDB, ensuring correct security and routing configurations.
  4. DNS & Networking: Implement internal and external DNS resolution, integrating services with Cloudflare or similar solutions.
  5. EC2 & Ubuntu: Maintain and manage Elastic Compute instances and Ubuntu operating systems in a highly-available environment.
  • Incident Management: Troubleshoot and resolve production issues quickly, performing root cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures to reduce downtime and system failures.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with development teams to improve development workflows, optimize deployment processes, and advocate for DevOps/DevSecOps best practices to enhance system reliability and performance.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in a DevOps role, with extensive hands-on experience in managing cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, automation, and complex systems in a production environment.
  • Cloud Expertise: Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly AWS (preferred), Azure, or GCP. Experience with EC2, VPC, RDS, DynamoDB, AuroraDB, Load Balancers, IAM policies, and cross-account role management in large-scale environments.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Proven expertise in Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar IaC tools for provisioning, managing, and optimizing cloud infrastructure in complex, dynamic environments.
  • CI/CD Tools: Extensive experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar. Proficient in designing, optimizig, and managing complex, automated deployment workflows to support continuous delivery at scale.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Deep expertise in containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes (including hands-on experience with Helm charts, multi-cluster management, and security in containerized environments), and related tools for managing microservices architectures.
  • Monitoring & Security: Advanced skills in implementing, maintaining, and optimizing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack). Strong understanding of cloud-native security practices, including IAM policies, encryption, DevSecOps, and compliance requirements (UKGC, PCI-DSS).
  • Scripting & Automation: High-level scripting expertise in languages such as Python, Bash, Go, or similar, with the ability to write clean, reusable code to automate complex tasks, optimize workflows, and enhance system operations.
  • Monitoring & Logging: Advanced knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting systems, such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK Stack, or CloudWatch, with the ability to implement end-to-end observability across the infrastructure. Capable of ensuring proactive incident management and alerting.
