Job Description

As the Data Architect, you will be responsible for modelling and architecting data ingested into the central data store. Reporting to the Head of Data Architecture, this role is responsible for transforming complex business structures, processes and activities into technical solutions with data models at their heart.

A key focus will be to build out the delta lake and transform data across all brands into usable views with practical data models.

Working closely with the data leadership team, you will contribute to defining data architecture standards and establishing best practices for data management. You will be responsible for ensuring principles and policies regarding PII data are closely adhered to. 

With an eye to the future, you will be looking to keep Rank’s data architecture at the forefront of technology advances.

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Design and implementation of central data platform
  • Ownership and creation of data models that conform to existing and future standards and conventions
  • Design for ingesting data from source systems
  • Collaborating and coordinating with multiple departments, stakeholders, partners, and external vendors
  • Dimensional model – define the conceptual model for structures for real-time data ingestion and reporting
  • Define a conceptual model for the business domain
  • Utilising agile ways of working, you will help the business to identify and realise value from MVP delivery.
  • Define mapping between logical and physical structures to enable engineers to define the ingestion pipeline
  • Optimise existing data models to improve performance
  • Be an active contributor to how the company evolves Data Governance practices and influence the adoption of data standards
  • Support engineering team with their ELT builds

Qualifications

  • Strong demonstrable experience of data modelling and all areas of delivery within the domain. Knowledge of one of the data modelling tools, preferably ERWIN. 
  • A comprehensive understanding of the principles of and best practices behind data architecture, and the supporting technologies such as RDBMS, NoSQL, Cache & In-memory stores. 
  • Experience working with real-time data, preferably streaming and batch processes in Databricks. 
  • Experience in working within an Agile delivery / DevOps methodology to deliver implementation in iterative sprints. 
  • Experience working with data architectures with Python, Spark, Scala, R, Delta Lake, Databricks. 

Nice to have:

  • Experience/knowledge of spark performance tuning and optimisation.
  • Databricks certification.
  • Microsoft/Azure certification.
