Job Description

We are looking for a Programme Manager with experience of running Data Projects, someone tenacious who can roll up their sleeves and also deliver projects whilst providing assurance to other data projects.   

We need you to share our passion for Data, to enable true company transformation by empowering the whole organisation to make data-led decisions. 

We are looking for you to increase business value, remove waste/duplication and initiate and deliver material change by utilising data to provide valuable insight to drive real action across our business.  

We are looking for someone with solid experience in managing several fast moving and dynamic data projects simultaneously to join our data-focused delivery team whilst always ensuring the fundamentals of Project Management are applied and governance is adhered to in our heavily regulated industry.  

You will be experienced in both traditional project management and agile ways of working, able to provide coaching and training to others in this approach to upskill colleagues. 

You will manage a team of Project Managers and Business Analysts to deliver and support our vision, working within Group PMO to deliver real tangible benefits to our business. 

You will be empowered and trusted to deliver initiatives dynamically, managing complex delivery with full support of the leadership team.  

  • You will play a pivotal role throughout the solution design, development, execution, and supervision of plans, policies, programs, and practices that deliver, control, protect, and enhance the value of data. 
  • You will be expected to use a high level of knowledge and experience in blending traditional project management principles and practices with an Agile development approach in the right proportions to fit large, complex, mission-critical, enterprise-level data projects and with the appropriate level of planning and provide the right balance of agility and predictability. 
  • You will manage multiple concurrent high visibility projects using agile methods in a fast-paced environment that may cross multiple business divisions. 
  • You will take full responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation and satisfactory completion of data projects adhering to our well established and flexible PMO governance practices. 
  • Working as part of a flexible, committed and active team to continuously deliver high quality solutions and outcomes in a rapid delivery environment based on realistic but aggressive task delivery schedules. 
  • Ensures that realistic project plans are maintained and ensures regular and accurate communication to all stakeholders. 
  • Proactively and effectively manage risks and issues that emerge during project delivery. 
  • Document and liaise with the project teams and any third-party partners to clearly document the project requirements for stakeholder review, approval and estimates/scheduling. 
  • Track performance of projects, specifically the completion of tasks against the expected delivery schedule to meet delivery timelines 
  • Adjust any changes to project deliverables, scope or time estimates due to constraints or challenges using agreed governance forums and appropriate controls. 
  • Ensure adequate preparation is made to ensure that the operational teams are kept aware of new changes coming as an outcome of any projects and adequate training is provided. 
  • Provide effective leadership to the project teams and takes appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed standards. 
  • Highlight lessons learnt from previous projects and recommended, and drive improvements based on insights for future data projects 
  • Use of online planning and resourcing tools, able to take the initiative and improve project reporting to proactively manage risk across a portfolio of projects 
  • Ability to grow, develop and challenge your team and yourself, looking at ways to improve using your expertise to influence how we can do delivery better. 
  • You will be an asset to the team and a subject matter expert in both data and project delivery. 
  • Implement appropriate people, process, and tools, to improve team efficiency and effectiveness 
  • Produce and communicate clear and accurate progress reports in line with Ranks Governance & Reporting Calendar. 
  • Forecast and set budget requirements for projects and ensure effective utilisation of available resources within budget provision. 
  • Monitor delivery costs, timescales and resources used, and take action where these deviate from agreed tolerances 
  • Ensure business expectations are met through clear and regular communication 

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years' work experience with an extensive data background as a Programme Manager
  • Several years of managing multiple data projects simultaneously 
  • A deep understanding and hands-on with at least one of the following: data strategy, data quality, business intelligence (BI), data governance, management information (MI), analytics (embedded), visualization and reporting, B2B Single Customer View 
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships, facilitating, challenging and bringing ideas together to solve problems 
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and organisational skills that ensure deadlines are met 
  • Excellent Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to overcome and conflicting objectives, and to ensure that key subject matter experts are engaged and involved in user stories and designs and clear acceptance criteria – ensuring successful adoption. 
  • Ability to run several concurrent workstreams within a Project or program with stakeholders across multiple locations, with multiple suppliers, teams involved 
  • Great planning, discovery, diagnostic, design, delivery – influencing, nurturing & rolling sleeves up to get the job done. 
  • High level technical understanding of key items for success of an Agile project such as Release Management, Backlog prioritization 
  • Balanced business/technical background - Sufficient level of technical background to provide highly-credible leadership to development teams and to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate complex project risks and issues 
  • Formal Project Management qualification e.g. PMP, Prince 2 Practitioner, MSP  
  • Relationship Management – Strong demonstrable capability to establish and sustain effective professional. relationships at all levels in the organisation with a focus on service delivery and clear communication to enable this. 
  • Broad business knowledge including commercial, financial awareness so as to manage budgets effectively and construct business cases. 
  • Solid understanding of and demonstrated experience in using appropriate tools: 
  • Agile Project Management tools such as Jira/Confluence and Planview 
  • Microsoft Project, Visio, and all Office Tools 
  • Very effective interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building  
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands 
  • Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the “big picture” view 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and experience interacting with both business and IT individuals at all levels including the executive level 
  • Progressive thinker who challenges constructively 
  • Builds positivity and energy in a team  
  • Collaborates with colleagues across Rank and encourages the Project team to do the same

  • Previous experience gaming experience would be beneficial, but not essential
