Our exciting and growing business is looking for exceptional Downsizing Specialists to work with our clients throughout the Triangle area. Downsizing Specialists assist in creating a compassionate, efficient, and positive experience for each of our customers.
The Downsizers is the leading full-service move management team in the Triangle, specializing in serving the senior community and individuals in transition.
We proudly serve the entire Triangle region (including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Durham, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Morrisville, Holly Springs, Hillsborough, Fuquay-Varina, and surrounding areas). The Downsizers work in private homes, apartment complexes and senior communities.
Many of our projects are physically demanding and occur under tight deadlines. Some projects take place under emotional and challenging situations. Candidates need to be adaptable and compassionate.
The Downsizing Specialist will support the Project Manager and Team Lead, as well as work with a team of other Specialists through completion of the project. This will include all facets of move management services (including sorting, packing, unpacking, donations and consignment assistance, overseeing junk haulers, and organizing personal items as well as loading and unloading of company vans).

Through our proprietary system, PLAN - SORT - PACK - SETTLE, our team works with a variety of client projects and situations to help the emotional and physical challenges of sorting through memories, downsizing, moving, liquidating belongings, and working with family members throughout the entire process.
Job Description
Role Purpose (Why This Role Exists)
The Downsizing Specialist supports the accurate and compassionate execution of client downsizing and relocation projects. This role exists to provide hands-on service that helps clients navigate complex and often emotional transitions with care, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Working closely with the Downsizing Manager and Team Lead, the Downsizing Specialist follows customized Move Plans and timelines, supports on-site execution, and represents The Downsizers’ values in every client interaction.
Core Accountabilities
1. Project Preparation & Execution
- Partner with the Downsizing Manager and Team Lead to implement customized Move Plans and timelines
- Prepare for projects by reviewing job details, client and shift notes, and feed instructions before arriving on site to projects
- Utilize project management tools to support timely and organized completion of work
- Maintain ongoing communication in the project feed throughout the engagement
- Recommendations on schedule changes should be communicated to the Project Manager through email (not the project feeds)
2. Client Service & Decision Support
- Provide the highest level of client service at all times
- Assist clients in determining which items to keep, donate, gift, sell, or discard
- Communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally with clients and family members
- Support clients through emotionally sensitive decisions with patience and care
- Provide sorting services prior to the move utilizing various techniques provided in training to help support client decision-making.
- Confirm with the Team Lead or Project Manager for items that convey, as well as items for auction, consignment, donation, and/or junk hauling prior to pick ups to ensure all items are accurately and efficiently are removed and delivered to their proper locations.
3. Packing, Moving & Settling Support
- Professionally pack client belongings and prepare items for transport
- Coordinate with movers and assist with unpacking and settling into new homes\
- Support organizing, placement of belongings, and home setup as directed
4. Logistics, Vehicles & Physical Support
- Drive 14-ft ProMaster High-Roof Van safely and responsibly, (training provided) modeling professionalism and care as a visible representative of The Downsizers’ brand
- Load and unload supplies before and after projects
- Handle supplies, equipment, and client property safely and responsibly
5. Systems, Communication & Feedback
- Accurately document required project information in systems
- Maintain clear communication with the Downsizing Manager and Lead Specialist
- Provide feedback and insights to leadership to support continuous improvement
6. Training, Culture & Team Participation
- Support development of new Downsizing Specialists with shadowing and learning opportunities
- Complete required online, in-office, and on-site training programs
- Participate in team meetings and collaborative planning sessions
- Represent The Downsizers’ culture of compassion, collaboration, trust, critical thinking, joy, and exceptional service
Qualifications
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong interest in working with and supporting older adults and individuals in transition
- Excellent attention to detail and strong critical-thinking skills
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse personalities
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable using technology and internal tools
- Team-oriented, teachable, adaptable, and collaborative
Education Requirements
- High school diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred

Availability & Physical Requirements
- Ability to work three or more days per week for six or more hours per day
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and perform physical work during shifts
- Valid driver’s license and comfort driving company vehicles
