The Downsizers has an additional offering, The Consignors offers in-home, online estate sales and serves as a clearinghouse for our clients' household items as they go through the downsizing process. 

This is a tremendous opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a growing demographic challenge which is the amount of belongings coming out of estates, and finding ways to both sell and re-home items.

Job Description

Do you enjoy antiquing and thrifting? Do you love estate sales and online auctions? If yes, The Consignors may be the perfect fit for you. We are looking for additional team members with scheduling flexibility to help us grow our home-based online auction service and also serve as backup staff for producing our warehouse-based online auctions. The home-based online auctions are usually within 30 minutes driving distance from our Chapel Hill warehouse.

This position will start on an as-needed basis and is expected to ramp up gradually as we build a team that can focus solely on cataloging our home-based, online auctions.  Each home-based auction takes about 5-7 business days to publish online and then another 2-3 days a few weeks later after the auction closes to manage pick-ups for auction winners. 

Summary: Responsible for researching and developing accurate descriptions of anything you might find in a household (jewelry, pottery, kitchenware, collectibles, art, electronics, coins, furniture and much more). Should know how to find the identity and value of items and/or able to efficiently do the research. Should be able to take quality photographs of items using our phone app. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating auction lots
  • Use our phone app to photograph and index items 
  • Use available tools to help identify and quickly create titles and descriptions of items
  • Practice attention to detail 
  • Pack up non-auction items for donation to aid in clear-out of house
  • Help keep items labeled properly and working spaces organized 
  • Assist on auction pick-up days

Responsibilities are subject to change based on the needs of the business. 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Able to learn and adapt to new technology
  • Experience with Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, and Mac).
  • Preferred: General knowledge of antiques, art, jewelry, decorative home items, collectibles, and auction industry. 
  • Reselling/Consignment/eCommerce experience helpful

Must pass a background check and be insurable and bondable.

  • Excellent writing and/or cataloging skills
  • Strong research skills in a high-production environment
  • An inquisitive, research-oriented mind
  • The ability to take direction and work in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.
  • Must be able to focus on repetitive tasks for periods of time.

Compensation:

  • Hourly Rate: $17/hour to start with potential for increases
