Job Description

About the Role:

The Volunteer Coordinator is directly responsible for engaging volunteers in AFTD’s mission and assisting each person to have a positive experience and meaningful impact. They implement volunteer recruitment, orientation/onboarding, retention, and recognition efforts. The Volunteer Coordinator will develop an understanding of each individual volunteer’s interests and connect them with activities and opportunities that meet those interests. They will work collaboratively with the Volunteer Manager and staff in all departments to develop an array of face to face and virtual volunteer opportunities and roles that respond to organization and community needs. They will handle all administrative aspects of the volunteer experience, maintaining accurate and current information on each volunteer. The Volunteer Coordinator will have extensive interaction with all aspects of the constituency, including care partners, persons living with FTD, staff and healthcare professionals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Volunteer engagement – Interview and screen new volunteers, match volunteers with specific activities of interest, coordinate with staff lead, track activity level and satisfaction. Maintain regular communication; ensure volunteers follow administrative processes and procedures. Work closely with AFTD staff in each department who supervise the work of the volunteers. Coordinate volunteer awareness activities in assigned area, including Meet and Greets and table settings. Assist in identification of opportunities for awareness activities in volunteer communities.
  •  Relationship Building: Develop and maintain effective relationships with volunteers; provide initial and ongoing communication and engagement through each volunteer’s tenure. Plan and facilitate online meetings for volunteers to connect around activities and develop a sense of shared mission and community. Assist with planning annual Volunteer Leadership Summit; attend regional events to represent AFTD. Plan and implement annual volunteer recognition activities.
  • Database Maintenance and Support: Maintain volunteer information in AFTD’s database including comprehensive volunteer contact records, location, and interests; utilize the database for centralized reporting on volunteer status, training and activities; contribute to development of scalable automated processes to ensure ease of tracking as the volunteer network grows.

Other Job Functions:

  • Coordinate closely with Advancement department and grassroots fundraising volunteers and events, support engagement in annual campaigns.
  •  Meeting planning and facilitation
  • Contribute to the recruiting, support, and engagement of volunteer ambassadors and other volunteer leadership roles
  •  Contribute to AFTD publications and materials for volunteer program promotion and recruitment
  •  Travel overnight (anticipated 3-4 trips a year) throughout the continental US.
  •  Occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate volunteer schedules.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• This position is an individual contributor and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this role:

• Bachelor’s degree required. Equivalent experience may also be considered.
• 2 years of non-profit experience, relevant service-oriented role or other administrative role
• 1-2 years of experience working with volunteers and/or personal experience as a volunteer preferred.
• Strong communication skills required; particularly verbal via telephone, video calls and in-person
• Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational and attention to details skills, with the ability to multi-task
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required, MS Team and database experience a plus
• Interest in dementia, disease advocacy or healthcare a plus
