Job Description

This position is with the Administrative Actions Unit (AAU) of the Collections and Civil Actions Department within the Regulatory Integrity Division (RID) of the Texas Workforce Commission. AAU initiates collection action against employers that are delinquent in the payment of unemployment taxes and penalties.

RID enforces all regulatory statutes within the jurisdiction of the agency that affect Unemployment Insurance (UI), Career Schools, Board sanctions, Wage claims and Child labor. A priority of the division is the prevention, detection, and elimination of fraud and abuse in the UI Program.

The ideal candidate is able to work quickly with attention to detail and with multiple priorities, while meeting deadlines. Person selected will be in frequent contact with outside customers and should be able to communicate effectively with business owners, attorneys, bankers and other legal and financial specialists. Should have experience with and be able to compose professional, non form business letters and e mails as needed in response to inquiries with minimal review.

The Accounts Examiner II-III:

  • Performs routine to moderately complex (journey level) accounts examination work.
  •  Examines Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax records of employers to secure past due taxes and related debts.
  •  Administers the provisions of the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act and Texas Labor Code.
  • Reviews employer UI Tax records to issue past due notices, liens, bank freezes, levies and other enforcement actions.
  • Must be able to communicate with employers, attorneys, accountants and others in a professional manner and be able to de escalate potentially hostile client situations in order to resolve underlying employer tax issues.
  •  Responds to a heavy workload of telephone calls, electronic mail and letters from employers and their representatives.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize a potentially changing workload.
  •  Must be able to compose non form responses to inquiries on accounts, including comprehensive instructions, account summaries and computations.
  •  Will assist with delivery and pick up of remittances and other documents from other departments.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Accounts Examiner II:

Successful completion of 60 semester hours of accredited college work, which included at least 9 semester hours of accounting, mathematics, business administration or related courses.

One year of full time qualifying experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.

Accounts Examiner III:

Successful completion of 90 semester hours of accredited college work, which included at least 12 semester hours of accounting, mathematics, business administration, or related courses.

One year of full time qualifying experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.

Preferred Qualifications:

One to two years of experience in a collection related field.

One to two years of experience with Microsoft Office packages including Excel, Word and Outlook or their equivalent.

One to two years of experience with TWC's automated Tax system or other mainframe database. Experience with general Internet or fee based debtor location searches.

A writing test will be administered at the time of the interview.

Schedule for this position will be Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM
