Job Description

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is seeking an HVAC Mechanic III to join the Facilities & Maintenance department team. This position is located in downtown Austin, next to the Texas State Capitol at 101 E 15th Street, Austin, TX.

The HVAC Mechanic III performs senior-level responsibilities related to installation, repair, and maintenance of ventilation, heating, air conditioning and environmental controls systems based on work orders and preventative maintenance activities. Work also involves performing general facility maintenance on the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) buildings.  May supervise the work of others.  Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

GENERAL DUTIES:
-Recognizes and solves issues with heating, ventilating, air conditioning, condensers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps and valves.
-Performs temperature adjustments, installations, repairs, maintenance and servicing of plant equipment and component parts of chill water and direct expansion air conditioner (HVAC) equipment, VAV, fan coil units, electronic and electrical systems, digital & pneumatic controls, commercial duct systems and building automation systems.
-Performs plumbing repairs and checks on hot water and boiler systems.
-Uses blue prints, reads and interprets schematics, and building drawings, and equipment manuals.
-Maintains records of repairs and equipment readings.
-Repairs and overhauls motors, pumps, electric circuits, air compressors, power distribution systems and thermostats.
-Maintain labor and materials records and prepare reports.
-May supervise maintenance teams.
-Ability to frequently work inside and outside TWC buildings.
-Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Duty requires up to 10% travel and frequent standing, kneeling, twisting, climbing, walking, bending and lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds of equipment and tools involved.  May work flexible schedule including occasional nights, holidays and weekends with an on call status involved.

Must have current Texas Driver's License and be insurable by TWC’s vehicle insurance provider.

The salary for this position is $3,293.41 - $4,907.00 per month, depending on qualifications. Qualifications

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
-HVAC license(s) strongly preferred.
-Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles, practices, materials, tools and equipment of air conditioning, heating, ventilating, water treatment, plumbing, electrical and mechanical operation, maintenance and repair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of GED certification, plus seven years of full-time experience in the installation, service, and maintenance of refrigeration, air conditioning and/or heating equipment.
-One year (30 semester hours) of accredited college work with courses in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering may be substituted for each year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of four years.
-Successful completion of a course in refrigeration, air conditioning and/or heating from a licensed vocational, technical, or business school may be substituted for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.
