Job Description

The mission of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is to promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers employers, individuals, and communities the opportunity to achieve and sustain economic prosperity. The Financial Operations Department in the Finance Division is seeking an Accountant II to join our team. The Finance Department's mission is to provide financial services that promote highly effective financial management controls, help agency management achieve the efficient use of financial resources and to ensure accurate financial information is available to the agency in a timely manner.

The Accountant II:
- Performs routine (journey-level) accounting work.
- Reviews and audits travel vouchers and related financial documents for accuracy and compliance with rules and regulations.
- Prepares and/or processes travel related payments and other related vouchers timely.
- Researches and assist in resolving payment discrepancies with vendors or agency staff accurately and timely by researching appropriate payables-related resources.
- Maintains adequate records of expenditures.
- Assists in making recommendations for improvements, adaptations, or revisions to procedures.
- Performs related work as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in accounting and financial operations strongly preferred.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field is generally preferred.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft software, and USAS strongly preferred.
- Professionalism, attention to detail, strong customer service, communication, writing, and organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities with frequent interruptions strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office strongly preferred.

The starting salary for this position is $2,748.00 - $3,500.00 per month, depending on qualifications.

The ideal candidate will work under moderate supervision.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful completion of 90 semester hours of accredited college work which included at least 12 semester hours of accounting.
One year of full-time experience in accounting or auditing may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.
A license to practice as a certified public accountant in Texas will satisfy the education and/or experience requirements.
