Job Description

Role Description:

As the Rail Pricing Performance Specialist you will be responsible for analytics and performance measures of the rail fleet by assisting in the planning and strategy to maintain compliance and focus on optimizing the fleet.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for providing cost effective rail pricing.
  • Provide support to the Rail Services & Distribution Supervisor.
  • Obtains and challenges rail rates for best lane, optimal transit, and price.
  • Analyze existing rates, rail tariff regulations, and recommend changes in rate structure.
  • Identify optimal routing analysis.
  • Prepares tariff proposal and executes negotiations for best cost position. 
  • Assist in strategic and tactical asset planning.
  • Identify and implement optimal performance metrics and strategies.
  • Builds supporting data and information for rail budget.
  • Assists in performing various financial analyses for Business Units.
  • Assists and identifies strategies to enhance financial opportunities and performance measures.
  • Work with supply chain to ensure equipment inventory is in line with seasonal supply needs.
  • Work with vendors for compliance scheduling and mobile repairs.
  • Order parts for plants pertaining to rail fleet. 
  • Assist to create and maintain purchase orders and work orders in SAP.
  • Liaison for our internal and external customer to address concerns related to rail.
  • Act as stand in for Rail Distribution during PTO.
  • Assist in auditing jeopardized rail reports.
  • Arrange intercostal deliveries.
  • Audit and approve vendor invoices.

Qualifications

Key Knowledge Skills and Behaviors:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years working in a business environment preferably with rail experience and/or knowledge. 
  • Degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and a minimum of 5 years of experience is required. 
  • Responsive to challenging situations and adapts well in changing environment.
  • Understand strategic constraints to optimize processes and stay up to date with the industry and ahead of competitors.
  • Demonstrates agility and resilience.
  • Conveys a thorough understanding of own area’s opportunities and threats.

  • Knowledge of rail car components for compliance and effective utilization.
  • Understanding of DOT regulations (49CFR) and FRA.
  • Experience in transportation or related environment.
  • Proficient in Excel.
