Job Description

As an App Experience PM:

I will be responsible for the product vision & strategy for the Digital experience on App and the Native Digital Design System (iOS & Android). 

I take a systems mindset to build and integrate consistent, efficient components across the Tesco product portfolio (Shop App and beyond).

Emphasis will be on the complete systems lifecycle, from establishing a practice and vision that endures to designing, building, documenting, and maintaining a high quality, accessible library used by many product teams.

I will also be responsible for defining the future of Tesco Groceries and the Clubcard app experience at Tesco.

 Used by millions of customers every day, the Shop app is the gateway to all the services that Tesco has to offer including in-store and online shopping, accessing Clubcard value, and in-store features.

I will work with my peers in Product to create a seamless cohesive experience, growing accessibility standards and enabling personalization across all customer missions.

In this Job, I am accountable for:

• Will evolve and drive the product vision, strategy, and the long-term roadmap

• Will proactively partner with peers and senior stakeholders to set the future direction of my product as part of the wider business strategy

• Am accountable for the performance/ adoption of the product and work towards achieving the Outcomes and Key Results (OKRs)

• Prioritise work and decisively resolve trade-offs with peers and senior leaders

• Effectively document and explain new requirements to the engineering team using user stories with acceptance criteria and help the team in breaking down complex work into smaller, deliverable chunks of value that can be delivered faster.

• Steer sprint/ release planning sessions by working with the engineering counterparts to plan sprints/ releases that deliver maximum business value in least effort

• Drive the acceptance and adoption of ideas and improvements with product teams and engineering stakeholders

• Prioritise coordinate and communicate the resolution of live product issues independently

• Provide leadership and direction to cross functional team (s) on short-term tasks/ near-term priorities

• Negotiate and clarify staff capacity for system work relative to other commitments to deliver releases at a predictable velocity.

• Identify, monitor, and report on system use across the enterprise. Native DDS

• Collaborate with other Product Owners to plan the testing and adoption of our library components on their backlogs

• Decisively resolve priorities, timing, risks, task importance, and possible breaking changes.

• Clarify scope to balance delivering minimum useful functionality with properly scalable system design.

• Attend and coordinate with product management release planning activities to identify library needs.

• Align research activity to assess efficacy of system concerns.

• Make sure the DDS is doing the right things, while not spreading too thinly. A healthy balance of innovation, support and maintenance are key

• Stay informed of the latest design systems thinking, engaging with the wider community and bringing valuable findings back to the organization..

• Identify, prioritise, and monitor task progress of design, development, and documentation across team members. Tesco Groceries and Clubcard app experience (Shop app)

Skills relevant for this role: 

• You are an interdisciplinary problem solver, skilled at blending different perspectives in the pursuit of a mission.

• You have experience working with design systems to efficiently scale out a visual identity without disempowering teams iterating on the experience.

• You are familiar with working across platforms and understand the relative merits and constraints of those environments.

• You are excellent at sorting out ambiguity and ensuring both engineers, designers, and partners have appropriate information and clear direction at all times.

• You understand the importance of the developer experience to improve impact, distribution, and success for those building on top of your product.

• You have excellent leadership and relationship-building skills.

• You are an excellent communicator and storyteller, engaging with your audience on a personal level.

• You are structured and enable those around you to maintain focus on what matters at the right time.

• You know how diverse personas or customer groups perceive, understand and experience the Shop app in different ways

• Be able to write hypothesis statements and work directly with optimization managers and/or engineers to set up and execute experiments

Qualifications

• 3+ years managing front-end app development team(s)

• 3+ years experience in one or more of: product management of app-based teams and/or SaaS or PaaS products/applications
