Job Summary

System Engineering Managers manage team of Systems Engineers working within a specific system engineering specialism. You have accountability for an area in terms of cost people management the quality of the team’s outputs/solutions and devising its technology direction. You are technically proficient and are focused on building a team that builds and supports the technical work in the most efficient and optimal manner.

In this job I

• Manage tasks for the members of the systems engineering job family building a team culture for continuous improvement and environment where engineers want to work. I recruit and support the development of members of staff.
• Ensure my team meets the required quality standards commitments and objectives as defined in the acceptance criteria and definitions of done for all tasks undertaken.
• Drives adoption of new tools and techniques being able to understand their value and impact.
• Understand and apply current application development techniques and their implications.
• Build a team with structure and capabilities to support incidents in live and support the relationship to Engineering.
• Keep my technical skills up to date and keep track of new technologies processes understanding how they might benefit the Technology team and wider Tesco.
• Manage team performance and improve capabilities by defining training plans objectives providing feedbacks.
• Manage external suppliers and responsible for measuring improving service provided.
• Manage stakeholder communication and escalations.
• Ensure that right changes are approved and implemented by team in production systems.
• Provide leadership by projecting a positive attitude and being a role model for personnel development.
• Remain abreast of technology advances and look at opportunities to improve customer experience.


Key Skills and Experience

An ideal candidate will have:

• 12-15 years of experience in developing and managing systems.
• A proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology; having done so across multiple teams in multiple geographies.
• Experience in implementing ERP solutions on cloud.
• Experience implementing recruitment platforms (ATS & CRM).
• Experience with handling data and data migration across systems.
• Experience of building credible relationships and influencing senior management & leadership teams.
• Strong Project Stakeholder & Programme management skills.
• Excellent communication & influencing skills.
