Job Description

• To prepare accurate cost estimates for Tesco Stores and associated works to ensure that costs are competitive and value for money in line with company business plans and objectives.
• Ensure best practice in construction cost estimating including knowledge and use of latest estimating tools technology and processes
• Identify risks and opportunities in scheme proposals in order to mitigate inherent risks through out the budget development process
• Explore maximum potential for the site to support a viable business case in a timely manner
• Work with in country Cost Managers to deliver best value project
• To incorporate the input from in-country engineers on highways structures services etc
• Adherence to in-country town planning guidelines and building regulations
• Provide support information and documents for Retail Development Group and Property Acquistion Committee board meetings
• Support continuous improvement through review and benchmarking output
• Produce Budgets that make efficient & innovative use of the site and are approved by governance groups
• Preparation of estimates in such a manner as to ensure that pricing methodology and assessments of risk are robustly challenged and actioned and presented in a standard and consistent form.
• Identify opportunities to challenge / improve existing working processes. Identify opportunities to challenge / improve Standard Costs and improve cost data bases
• Produce Budgets that are quality and produced timely to assist site purchase and planning applications to be submitted
• Manage update and co-ordinate estimation databases and benchmarking information for use in future scheme assessments and reporting
• Ensure budgets include latest thinking on sustainability
• Support servicing design strategy to our stores responds to the surrounding environment in a sensitive manner
• Lead innovation at conception and throughout development of schemes
• Be proactive and innovative in creating/ developing new solutions and rules
• Ability to work within a close and virtual team environment liaising assisting and challenging design solutions in order to deliver best value for Tesco
• Effectively manage consultants and Agencies to continuously improve their performance and output via KPI’s
• Deliver value for money on projects through consideration of scheme programme and cost
• Achieve capital savings through innovative solutions
• Use standards to control scheme costs to ensure value for money is delivered and drive down cost/ft2
• Manage risk through the process to aid the overall delivery process
• Ensure Cost appraisals make efficient use of the site and are approved by governance groups
• Ensure Costs produced are aligned with the Planning managers design and plans are challenged to deliver the best value scheme for the business
• Be proactive and innovative in creating/ developing new solutions and rules to help minimise costs / deliver value
• Be proactive in helping through cost efficiency to maximise the average new store and extension size aiding future extendibility
• Ensure effective cost analysis helps deliver the best possible site layouts for all schemes with best possible access/egress and flows
