Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: 


A liaison between the organization and government and private funding partners. The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals/reports that support agency goals and meet federal and non-federal foundation funding guidelines and criteria. Serves as the primary grant writer, assists in managing corporate and foundation funder relationships, engages in compliance reporting, and supports special project initiatives. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

•Leads federal and non-federal grant proposal development and submission process—preparing and organizing materials for proposals and submitting and monitoring grant applications.
•Drafts proposals/LOIs, grant application narratives, and collaborates with program managers/directors, and corporate leaders to finalize for submission.
•Identifies new grant opportunities and convenes and prepares proposal go/no-go meetings to determine mission fit and alignment.  
•Meets with funders, prospects, organizational employees to explore funding opportunities, which includes site visits.
•Maintains master calendar of grants and prospects and all associated files and correspondence.
•Maintains library of grant support documents including resumes, bios, IRS forms, etc.
•Monitors and maintains funder reporting schedules and requirements.
•Assembles all necessary supporting materials and documents including budget reports, outcome measurements, success stories, etc.; submit reports to funders.
•Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct supervisory duties but is expected to train or explain work procedures to others.

Qualifications

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree 
•Three or more years of experience in grant writing 
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Excellent organizational skills
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint SharePoint)
•Experience with donor development/CRM software systems
•Familiarity and experience working with national foundations, governmental foundations, and private/corporate foundations.
•Must have own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and required vehicle insurance.

Skills and Abilities Required

•Experience writing successful grants.
•Strong ability and expertise identifying, developing, writing, and leading the process to submit high-quality competitive grant applications.
•Considerable knowledge of research methods grant-writing techniques, and current philanthropic funding trends.  
•Must have good project management, strong attention to detail, research, and data analysis skills.
•Ability to work closely in a trusted team environment where sharing and teamwork is valued.
•Ability to analyze and solve problems.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure; proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism.

•Ability to learn complex funding opportunity requirements, policies, and regulations.
