Job Description

The Mill is growing our Game Engine Cinematics Team (Pre-Rendered and Runtime) and looking for a Technical Artist that can help drive innovation and quality, while supporting our Artists.

Requirements 

The Mill is looking for an accomplished Technical Artist with Game Engine experience supporting Cinematics & Art Pipelines. The ideal candidate is a self motivated, troubleshooting machine with a relentless thirst for knowledge. They must have a high level of technical knowledge with strong creative and visual instincts. Being able to support a project from concept to completion, communicating with artists and leadership/stakeholders, and helping to grow our pipelines and processes will be essential to a candidate being successful in this role.

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the CG Lead and Creative Director to create Pre-Rendered and Runtime Cinematics in a 3D Game Engine (Unreal, Unity, Frostbite)
  • Collaborate with the Technical Art Director to drive department goals and objectives
  • Use Visual Scripting Tools (ex: Unreal Blueprints) to create Logic, Functions, Classes, Widgets, etc.
  • Support Artist’s Workflows and Pipelines – Making sure our artists have the tools they need to be efficient and effective
  • Maintain Project Stability and advocate for High Standards (Organization, Conventions, Best Practices, etc.)
  • Ensure integrated assets are optimized, performant and meet project’s Technical Standards

Qualifications

Technical Requirements: 

  • Expert Level familiarity with at least one 3D Game Engine (Unreal, Unity, Frostbite)
  • Comfortable with Project Source\Version Control (ex: Perforce, GITHub)
  • Demonstratable Competence using Visual Scripting Tools (ex: Unreal Blueprints)
  • Familiar with DCC applications (Maya, Motion Builder, Houdini, Adobe CC, etc.) and their export pipelines
  • Generalist understanding of disciplines that support Cinematics (Animation, Rigging, Lighting, VFX, Cinematography, Materials, etc.)

Beneficial Additional Skills (not essential to the role but would help differentiate candidates): 

  • Scripting / Programming Experience (Python, MEL, C++/C#, Javascript, etc.), Creating User Interfaces, and learning unfamiliar APIs
  • Experience with creating VR/AR experiences in Game Engines
  • Specialization in multiple Cinematics Domains (Animation, Rigging, Lighting, VFX, Cinematography, Materials, etc.)
