Job Description

As part of the international animated feature film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mutant Mayhem (Nickelodeon), Mikros Animation is looking for several Digital Matte Painting artists to join its multi-skilled team! 

Under the responsability of the DMP Supervisor, the Mattepainter Artist works on 2D and 2.5D painted sets on 360° skydomes or generic mattepainting assets, as well as (painted) extensions of the film’s 3D environments.  

Their missions will include the following: 

  • Produce the mattepainting sets of the film in accordance with the vision of the director and the artistic director   

  • Transpose references/concept/colorkeys into technically deliverable final images to the Compositing department  

  • Create landscapes and environments within a 3D scene using various tools (2D and 3D)   

  • Work closely with the DMP supervisor on image composition, respect and consistency of the concepts and graphic style of the film, lighting  

  • Produce and project the paintings (2D) in 3D in accordance with the technical specifications of the project (mono)   

  • Correct and ensure the technical coherence of their work: resolution, technical and artistic quality of mattepainting, correct stretches if necessary 

Qualifications

Skills required...    

  • Talents as a painter and illustrator (ideally a BG concept/color artist profile, or VFX mattepainter with a good level in drawing/painting)   

  • Good knowledge of Maya desired    

  • Strong knowledge of Photoshop and Nuke   

  • Strong technical and visual skills   

  • Excellent attention to detail and understanding of the different stages of creating and making an animated film   

  • Excellent communication and listening skills   

  • English: proficient 

And appreciated assets:  

  • Blender Basics Practice of Photography (digital or film)   

  • Notions of 2D animation (posing timing etc ...)   

  • Knowledge of Arnold   

  • Previous experience with Linux   

  • Knowledge of color management (EXR, ACES, LUT, colorspaces)
