Job Description

A RotoAnim Artist is responsible for delivering high quality 3D-Character Roto Animation. They should be able to accurately match the movement & silhouette of the 3D character with the live-action character. They should also create convincing performances and motion of characters and/or objects in both screen and 3D space within the animation package for the addition of CG effects.

Furthermore, they should be flexible, be able to multi-task, trouble-shoot, and add creative value in all areas through development and design. In the Academy, they will use their ability to implement and accomplish tasks as per the schedule and curriculum delivered by the trainer.

Some of the key responsibilities of the RotoAnim Trainee include:

  • To roto-animate a variety of characters and/or objects that match the film backplates.
  • Consistently maintain shot quality.
  • To be conscious of continuity between scenes when working with other Roto Animation Artists on the same character/rig
  • Attend course sessions including dailies and address feedback provided
  • Lead by example, foster a good working atmosphere and strong ethics
  • Engage in continuous learning
  • Submission of assignments by deadlines
  • To be able to follow direction and take ownership of your tasks

What we offer

You are applying to join the RotoAnim Academy. The course facilitates trainees to engage in a 7-week program, whether it’s working out areas of your game that need practice or introducing you to new techniques.

This online course will aim to get you up to the standard required to deliver first class RotoAnim shots and includes:

  • Dedicated mentoring from a senior industry member
  • Intensive training using industry standard software tools (provided) while using our high-quality training materials   
  • Continued access to video tutorials featuring industry experts and the potential to use your project work in showreels
  • You will be hired as an employee (paid) during this program. After completing this course, if qualified you will move on the floor in one of Technicolor's VFX studios.

CURRICULUM

·      Understanding of Rigs and Controls

·      3d Space of rig controls and pivots

·      Posing and fundamentals of animation

·      Keyframe animation

·      Basic rough and smooth RA

·      Adding in-betweens, cleaning up

·      Graph manipulation

·      Use of anim Layers

·      Parenting & Constraints

·      Working with witness cams

·      Reparenting

·      Using 3DE for Tight RA

·      Deformed object animation

Qualifications

  • Recent graduates of Bachelor’s in art, animation, game design. Other graduates with basic animation knowledge can also apply.
  • Basic understanding of animation principles and posing.
  • Good knowledge of Maya.
