Job Description

NFIP Correspondence Claim Examiner, Hyattsville, MD

Description of specific Duties in a typical workday for this position:

  • Process claim appeals and claim correspondence
  • Report, track and communicate status and issues based on client’s needs
  • Assist in the preparation and publication of Claims/Correspondence reports and deliverables
  • Assist with disaster response activities, including the preparation of critical reports
  • Produce high quality documentation and reports
  • Identify and report risks in the areas of responsibility
  • Research and analyze case files and related materials, reach conclusions, and prepare written responses in letter or narrative form to correspondence inquiries and formal appeals from policyholders and others
  • Maintain current and accurate status notes, update daily as needed
  • Promptly perform quality control reviews as designated

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with significant coursework in business or economics
  • 2+ years of successful claim-handling experience at a Property & Casualty insurance company
  • Some understanding of underwriting procedures
  • Ability to learn new skills for reporting measurements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Highly organized, energetic, creative, passionate, team player
  • Detailed-oriented problem solver
  • US Citizen and ability to get a Public Trust

Nice to Have:

  • Commit to earning Associate in National Flood Insurance (ANFI) within 6 months

This is a full time position paying a base salary, full benefits, and has possible bonus potential based on merit and performance.
